A performance and dialogue experience inspired by real stories from Hiroshima.

KANMA is an experience of performance and dialogue rooted in the lived histories of Hiroshima. Through theater based on real stories and conversations with people connected to Hiroshima across generations, visitors are invited to pause, listen, and reflect on what peace means today.

OUR CHAPTERS

Each Chapter Opens a New Conversation

Every chapter begins with a true story. Through performance and dialogue, each one opens a different doorway into Hiroshima, memory, and the human experience.

Chapter1: Letters to kū

Before Hiroshima became history, it was someone’s everyday life.

Inspired by real letters written by Sachiko Yokoyama to her ten-year-old son Yutaka, who had been evacuated from Hiroshima during World War II, Letters to Kū brings a mother’s voice into the present through performance.

Her words are filled with affection, humor, concern, and hope. Through them, audiences encounter not only a family living through extraordinary times, but also the universal bonds that connect parents and children across generations.

It is a story of life before loss, and of voices that continue to travel through time.
